“I learned more about health insurance in two hours than the past 20 years I spent trying to figure out the US health care system.”

In May, Roundstone hosted its highly anticipated 2018 Medical Captive Forum at FirstEnergy Stadium in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The Captive Forum was a day packed with industry experts, employer panelists and solution providers dedicated to educating midsize employers on how to implement relevant cost saving strategies. With 300 attendees ranging from small business employers to large health insurance agencies and association leaders, it is to date the highest attended employer-focused cost containment Forum.

To kick off the day, Roundstone President, Mike Schroeder, greeted attendees and addressed the pain in the room as healthcare costs are still skyrocketing. Schroeder asked “How could Roundstone help employers make the most of the captive funding strategy?”

“As I reflected on everyone that I met, I had a really good feeling that both Roundstone and the group you gathered had a lot of integrity and genuine desire to help people.”

This set the stage for Roundstone to introduce their new team – the Roundstone Cost Savings Investigators. The Roundstone CSI team, constructed of data analysts, clinicians, lawyers, and client managers will work in conjunction with an employer’s advisor, free of charge, to deliver cost saving solutions that can be implemented into their health plan. The new team was well received and attending employers have already reached out to the team to start discussing their options.

Next, a panel of pharmacy benefit managers came ready to engage in a Q&A segment with the audience. Experts from CastiaRx (formerly LDI Integrated Pharmacy), Southern Scripts, and Serve You Rx fielded an abundant amount of questions related to pharmacy costs, the current drug spend climate, and the benefits of having a transparent PBM on your side. Next up, the annual employer panel consisting of representatives from various industries, who are participating in a Roundstone captive, answered questions from the audience in regards to their experiences, implemented cost containment strategies and success stories. This has always been the highest rated segment and it continues to engage.

After the panels, our industry leading speakers took to the stage to discuss industry hot topics. Jerry Fiala of the Cleveland Clinic discussed the importance of a second opinion strategy for high cost claims. SurgiPrice, a surgery benefits manager, engaged the audience with the difference a surgery choice can make to an employee and their costs. Breakout sessions were hosted by healthcare industry innovators. HealthJoy demonstrated their groundbreaking all-in-one benefits navigation and communication mobile app. INTERLINK focused on carve out networks and their role in controlling the cost of a cancer diagnosis. PSC Healthcare brought to light how telemedicine and health technologies can help improve employee health and significantly reduce cost.

After the informational sessions concluded, the Forum finished with our inspirational keynote speaker, Alex Sheen, Founder of because I said I would, a local nonprofit and social movement dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept. Alex’s work has been featured on CNN, Good Morning America, the TODAY Show and many other programs, as well as TEDx Talks. Alex detailed his journey of loss and enlightenment through a powerful message mixed with humor, which ignited the crowd to take action and initiate change.

“We liked Roundstone before, after the Captive Forum, we love Roundstone.”

Our objective now is to ensure that next year’s Forum is even better as we are looking to constantly improve and perfect. This event is for employers looking to do better for their company and employees, as money saved can be reinvested in their business or passed back to the employees through a lower health benefit share and higher wages. We are consistently committed to keeping the Roundstone Captive Forum a purely educational event and our topic ideas are already flowing. Interested in attending this event, want to learn more?
